Bob Devereux came to St.Ives in 1965 and visited the Penwith Gallery. The paintings he saw there influenced his decision to leave his advertising agency in Kingston and pursue his interest in abstraction. For thirty years, whilst working as an artist, poet and educator, Bob ran the internationally respected Salthouse Gallery in St.Ives where he also staged poetry readings and musical events. These evolved into the St.Ives Literature Festival which Bob continues to organise every May. Despite having retired from running the gallery in his seventieth year over a decade ago, Bob continues to work as an artist, performance poet and organiser of the weekly Café Frug, an evening of poetry, music and performance which takes place at the St. Ives Arts Club.
